“Kaliakra” is a seascape by Stefan Temelkov, in which rock, water and light meet in an image of natural power, space and resilience.
Here, the sea and the land seem to be having a conversation that began long before us.
The rocky headland rises solid and steadfast above the water. Opposite it, the sea is alive and restless – moving, breaking against the shore and retreating again, only to return.
There is a particular harmony in this eternal clash. The rock endures, the water never stops, and between them time seems to lose its usual meaning.
Light softens the harshness of the landscape. It passes through the sky and water, dissolves some of the forms and fills the composition with air.
The expanse of the sea draws the gaze outwards, while the mass of the headland brings it back to the land. Two opposing sensations thus meet in the painting – the freedom of infinity and the security of solid rock.
In “Kaliakra”, there is no human drama to be told. Nature itself is enough – sea, rock, wind and light, existing in their own rhythm.
This is precisely what gives the work its sense of eternity. A person may come, look and leave, while the headland and the sea will continue their ancient conversation.
Measuring 90 × 60 cm, the painting has an imposing presence and allows the landscape to unfold its sense of space. With the frame, the size reaches 100 × 70 cm.
“Kaliakra” is a work about the power of nature and that particular feeling before places that seem as though they have always been here – and will remain long after us.
