“Dream 2” is a work by Stefan Temelkov in which reality gradually loses its outlines and gives way to that peculiar world where images are both familiar and difficult to name.
A dream rarely tells a story to the end. It leaves images, sensations and traces that begin to fade as soon as we wake.
Human silhouettes, faces and almost architectural forms appear within the painted surface, intertwine and begin to dissolve again. No image remains entirely separate from the others.
The boundaries are uncertain. One form passes into another, the figure becomes space, and the familiar gradually takes on the character of something strange and inexplicable.
The muted greens, greys and warm earth tones create a quiet, almost timeless atmosphere. Colour does not seek strong contrast, but gradually layers different states and depths.
There is a sense of memory in the composition. Some images seem to come from lived experience, others belong to the imagination, and the boundary between them remains unclear.
This is often exactly how we remember dreams – individual faces, places and moments remain, but the connection between them has already been lost.
Stefan Temelkov does not try to arrange this world. He leaves it in its natural ambiguity and allows viewers to seek the connections between the individual images for themselves.
Measuring 70 × 50 cm, the work has enough space to unfold its layered world. With its frame, the dimensions reach 75 × 55 cm.
“Dream 2” is a work about that brief moment between dreaming and waking – when the images are still close, but we can already feel them beginning to disappear.
