“Ceramic Artwork 2” by Iliycho Aleksiev opens a symbolic world of travel, companionship and mysterious figures.
At the centre, three faces gather closely within a small boat, suggesting people sharing a journey through time and the unknown. Celestial figures appear above them, while a fish introduces another of the artist’s characteristic images and connects visible, spiritual and imagined realms.
The forms are modelled in relief, allowing real light to animate the surface. Raised details cast changing shadows, while the richly ornamented ceramic frame continues the central scene and turns the entire surface into a unified artwork.
Warm earth tones give the ceramic the presence of an ancient artefact, although its imagery remains individual and contemporary. The 30 × 30 cm square format, including the ceramic frame, concentrates the composition without diminishing its visual presence.
